“Moriche”, also known as “Moriche Palm”, is the common name of Mauritia flexuosa, a slow-growing palm tree that grows in wet areas, such as swamps, in South America. A versatile tree, it yields edible oil. It can be consumed raw, dried, and ground into flour, processed into desserts, or made into a beverage. The pith of the trunk is a source of edible starch while the palm heart is consumed as a vegetable. Its sap can be boiled down to make sugar or fermented into palm wine. Medicinally, the seed oil is used for burns and the fruits are eaten as relief for bowel problems while the fiber can be made into ropes, hammocks, belts, hats, baskets, and fishing nets, among other important things.

This flora is also special to our founder, who was born in Venezuela and is now based in Amsterdam. By naming her fashion line to one of the many plant species native to her country, she is not only honoring her roots but also sharing them, together with her rich heritage to the world.
